The closest hotels to Deep Ellum are in downtown. They're close, but the walk between Deep Ellum and the hotel area is a walk under highway overpasses and other potentially unfriendly areas-- as in any big city's downtown area! For week day travel, get a rental car and drive from your hotel (parking is no problem on week nights in Deep Ellum). For weekend travel, take a taxi in and out of Deep Ellum or drive there fairly early and leave your car in a parking lot with an attendant.
