The shops and restaurants and live music clubs draw a lively crowd at night and on the weekend, and during the week you'll enjoy a small town feel with the convenience and appeal of the city. Here's a sample of an average week of on-foot living for Deep Ellum residents:

Sunday: Watch football while eating the city's best cheeseburgers at Adair's or the Angry Dog, do your laundry at the Bar of Soap while you play pool and listen to music with your friends, enjoy some of the great Latin music and dancing at Monica's Aca & Alla, have a delicious and leisurely dinner at Deep Ellum Cafe, then listen in on Tom PreJean's open mic night at Club Dada or the Texas Tapes at Curtain Club.

Monday: Enjoy the all-you-can-eat red beans and rice at the Crescent City Cafe, quaff a couple of tasty homebrews at CopperTank, then stop by for a few groceries and magazines at the Metro Convenience Store.

Tuesday: Savor the half-price entrees at Monica's Aca Y Alla, check out the latest fashions at Slick's and Moda International, wrap up the day with a frothy cappucino at Insomnia.

Wednesday: Pick up a book or video at Forbidden Videos, eat tasty pizzas named for local bands on the roof at the Green Room while you watch the sun go down, stop by the Rock to sit at the bar with Louie and have a beer, then hang out at Trees to watch the bands being auditioned for a weekend night spot.

Thursday: Stop by Mark 'N Larry's stuff to look over their latest procurements in cards, books, and home decorations; enjoy sizzling fajitas and the hottest fried jalapenos in town at Sol's Taco Lounge; then walk down the street to hear the best of the city's local blues talent at acoustic music night at Blue Cat Blues.

Friday: Have a happy hour beer while sitting at the bar with Pete at St. Pete's, get a table by the window at East Wind to eat Vietnamese food and watch the people parade, play a couple of rounds of pool at the Cockeyed Parrot and dance until the wee hours at Club One.

Saturday: Shop for your place at the Arrangement and Hill Country Experience, watch the Harleys arrive on Elm street, stop by the Sunshine store next door to say hello and pet the neighborhood dog, have a smorgasboard of your favorite sushi at Deep Sushi, scoot through The Bone and Elm Street Bar to see if anyone you know is there yet, make your way through Club Clearview/Art Bar/Blind Lemon and Red, then head over to whatever club is headlining your favorite band. Have an early morning breakfast at Cafe Brazil.
